Coronavirus Spreads by Breathing and Talking is the message Dr. Harvey Fineberg, committee chairmen, NAS’ Standing Committee on Emerging Infectious Diseases and 21st Century Health Threats, National Academy of Sciences, along with an expert panel told the American White House.
He said, “While the current [coronavirus] specific research is limited, the results of available studies are consistent with aerosolization of virus from normal breathing,”
He told CNN that he would start wearing a mask when he goes out to the store.
He said that research from a Chinese hospital showed that the virus could be suspended in the air when patients or staff move around, clean floors and remove protective gear.
Research from the University of Nebraska also shows that the virus can be found in the air more than 6 feet away in a patient’s room.
He also said, “If you generate an aerosol of the virus with no circulation in a room, it’s conceivable that if you walk through later, you could inhale the virus,” Fineberg said. “But if you’re outside, the breeze will likely disperse it.”
